This leading table olive estate is situated in the well known Breede River Valley approximately one hour and fifteen minutes from Cape Town.  This area has a Mediterranean climate that is ideal for growing excellent quality olives.  The estate is amongst the top three olive farms in the country, producing top grade table olives.  There are currently contracts with two of the largest retail groups in South Africa. 

The size of the land is approximately 240 hectares.  Currently 110 hectares are developed of which 95 hectares is in full production.  The remaining land will be in full production in the next three years.

There is a lot of potential for further development.  The Estate itself has 20 hectares that could still be developed, apart from the 60 hectares of adjacent land that can be purchased.

Operation:

The farm has a fully equipped factory which handles the packaging, storage and distribution of table olives.  This includes two pip removing machines, a packaging machine, containers (26 bulk tanks each with 20 000 liter capacity), a fork lift, cool-room (40 ton capacity), store rooms, water purifying system, a laboratory and other needed farming and operational equipment. There is an abundance of labour in the area and the farm employes 24 full time workers and several casual workers during harvesting season.

A nursery for cultivating small olive trees, is well established.  Three cultivars namely kalamata (black olives), mission (black olives) and manzunila (green olives) are planted.  The 65 hectares which is in full production contains 18 000 trees between the age of 13-17 years.  A further 50 hectares have been planted with 8 300 trees between the age of 7-9 years and will be in full production in the next three years. Olivae specializes in table olives and is outsourcing the production of olive oil, according to the needs of the markets it serves.

There are 8 houses with electricity and water providing housing for the 24 permanent workers on the farm.
